The Music Rag

Burning House by E

EZA's always flawless vocals take on Cam's "Burning House" with an effervescent charm only she could manage, giving a genuinely complimentary nod to the songs origins and making it, possibly, the best cover of 2015, one you've really got to hear for yourself.

An electronic, smooth, synth driven spin on the acoustic track makes it that much more hypnotic and untouchable; it hits a little harder, loses itself a little more recklessly, and will have you that much more thoroughly addicted to an artist you need to know before 2016.

Thinkin Bout You by E

Seeking to help Frank Ocean fans get through the (expansive) gap between his last release and new music, Midnight Pool Party's cover of "Thinkin Bout You" is all you need to start falling for his music all over again.

Measured and light, but knowing just when to hit, the tracks warm beats and glowing synths are enough to keep you warm in the December chill and the undeniable greatness of a track that's driven and persistent but never loses control of itself is so very important to mark; when everyone else is trying to figure out how to mix old school beats with new styles, Midnight Pool Party has already perfected their own addictive style.

Ghost by E

MIRA's debut single "Ghost" rings with a maturity and confidence beyond expectations.

Hypnotic in its careful unfurling of light beats and building melodies, smokey vocals drag out articulate lyrics, begging you to take a closer listen, all leading to an unhinged, desperate conclusion with just enough of a Florence + The Machine type quality that you'll have to give it another go.

But Enough On That For Now by E

Calculated and dreamy, Vandaveer's innocent lead-in is enough to enough to have you smiling and falling in those first twenty seconds. Autobiographical lyrics are too good to resist in "But Enough On That For Now" and a beautiful harmony pulls you in with a quiet ease before dipping back into an emotionally stirring chorus that weeps with a hope that'll leave you dancing to an impossibly sweet bridge.

The sweet single truly demands more than one listen, so sit back and soak in its loose Americana feels then look for more to come on Vandaveer's forthcoming LP, The Wild Mercury, out February 19th.
