Catch up with Foxtrax's Ben Schneid (lead vocals & guitar) and watch the alt-rockers debut video for single "Underwater" off their The Cabin EP, out now.
What brought you all together?
We all went to high school together and I think some weird juju brought us together, honestly.
Where does your name, Foxtrax, come from?
We were living in this cabin in the woods of North Carolina and there was snow everywhere. We would hike out in the woods all the time and we’d see these fox tracks in the snow all the time. It was like a reoccurring dream or a sign or something like that. Eventually it just dawned on us that those fox tracks represented our own unpredictable and unknown path in life.
Which musicians have you been influenced by?
Which musicians haven’t we been influenced by? That’s the real question!
If you were to make a playlist for your fans, which 3 songs - from other artists - would you have to include?
“The Less I Know The Better” – Tame Impala
“I Should Live In Salt” – The National
“Get Away” – The Internet
What words would you use to describe your sound to someone who had never heard your music?
Our sound could most aptly be described as the last scoop of peanut butter in the jar. The natural peanut butter though, not that Skippy bullshit.
What were your inspirations behind your single and the video for "Underwater"?
Life is the inspiration for the song. "Underwater" is a song that reflects the emotion of being young and not knowing what the future holds. The idea for the video was one that director Ivanna Borin came up with. We thought it was such a cool irony to have the video for "Underwater" take place in the desert, so we went with it!
In one sentence, how would you sum up The Cabin?
The Cabin EP is an old sidewalk from ‘04 that has your name carved in it from the day the cement was repaved and you etched it in with a stick.
What do you hope listeners are able to take away from your music?
Hopefully some people will make some art.
Is there anything you want to add?
Keep the faith. If you build it, they will come.
