Comb My Hair by E

Coast Modern's effortless sound is something like aged angst with a tongue in cheek attitude, deep grooves swirled with psychedelia, and a smooth West coast finish; and their newest single "Comb My Hair" is all of that at once.

The LA duo (Coleman Trapp and Luke Atlas) will be releasing their debut record May 5th via 300 Entertainment / +1 Records and, as each single has been as unique and wonderful as the last, we've no doubt this is one album you will not want to miss.

Here It Goes by E

Ryan Lafferty released his aptly titled debut single "Here It Goes" today. A surreal deconstructed country with pop influences sound wraps itself around narrative lyrics that spell out Lafferty's journey.

Story-like lyrics reach beyond the song with their honesty: a first love gone wrong followed by an endearing breakaway that proves it wasn't the worst thing that happened that day. Lafferty's sound is fresh and different, but stays within the realm of pop country, making it as comfortable and easy to listen to as it is exciting.

Natural by E

Russ Macklin's "Natural" featuring Kyle Reynolds is a cool step up from the electronic pop you're used to; with its thoughtful lyrics, warm melody, and cool beat it's everything you need right now to dance around and de-stress.

Said the two of the track, "I had this track and we pretty much just had it playing on a loop, what we thought would be the chorus. Kyle was humming and words were just slipping out and non-words were coming in there and I was like, "hey, whoa, did you just say natural?" and he was like, "uh, yeah, totally," so I was like, "okay, feels so natural" and that's where we went. We literally went from that title word" (Macklin) "...and it's very obvious when something is natural, as far as chemistry, and it's very obvious when something is not and feels forced and uncomfortable. We had the idea of natural, so we, together, painted this picture" (Reynolds).

A gentle mix of the singer-songwriter style with pure pop - full of irresistible melodies, catchy hooks, and a chorus that only takes one listen to fall for - Macklin's easy control over his production and Reynolds' emotive vocals lift the track to something listenable, pure, and just real damn good. We'd recommend listening to the unstoppable single all weekend, so check out their interview here and follow all those sites to stay up to date with Russ Macklin and Kyle Reynolds.

Womens March Playlist by E

“If one man can destroy everything, why can't one girl change it?” - Malala Yousafzai

Only a few of our favorite women in music are featured below but, as 8 year old girls everywhere are about to have to answer writing assignments asking "what would you do if the president came to dinner?" and bullshit power essays about a pleasant dinner with a man who's committed sexual assault, we'd like to take this time to remind you that women are unstoppable. Never "just stop" or silence yourself for someone else's comfort; keep talking and keep fighting, no matter how insurmountable it seems. This weekend's marches - and the next four years of undoubted fights - are not limited to women (they are pointedly, intelligently, beautifully set to represent us all), but women have been fighting established ideas since birth and I know you've developed a tough enough skin to keep going; we were conditioned and raised to fight for our right to be heard.

Remember to protest peacefully this weekend. Peaceful protests take a lot of slack but they gave equal voting rights to black men and women, they gave women bodily autonomy and the right to choose the future they want, they gave us the right to marry whomever we love, they gave Muslim school kids in New York City the same rights to religious holidays as Christian and Jewish children (and in many more cities, too!), and just a few weeks ago they re-directed an entire oil pipeline (that's amazing, guys). There's still more to do in every instance, but peaceful protest got us there and it will continue to get us far, no matter the hate you face and the people who insist you're only whining about something as infantile as not getting your way.

It does take far more strength to love and forgive than it will ever take to hate and fear, so continue fighting and take care to choose mob love over mob hate, every time.

"You don't make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas. - Shirley Chisholm
