Turn You Out by E

The Phryg presents a cool fusion of prog rock meets funk electronica with a modern twist and a jam band-like vibe in their latest single, "Turn You Out".

The four piece Brooklyn band's unique sound sets them apart from so much trendy lo-fi with fun, casual riffs, prominent beats, and deep grooves that give the track a thick soul you could sink into.

Take a listen to The Phryg's "Turn You Out", catch our chat with them here, head to all those sites below, and look for their self-titled album to drop this July.

The Virginmarys - Motherless Land Press Release by E

Hailing from Macclesfield, England, The Virginmarys make anthems that scream with all the potent sound and fury of modern punk acts, brimming with the honesty of prime British rock of the early 1970’s, before the wizards and capes overcame the attack and dynamic.

The energetic three-piece arrive with a compelling video for their single, "Motherless Land".

Taken from their sophomore release, Divides, the visuals are a fitting match the song. Directed by Kyle Cogan and produced by Drew Morris, the video follows a homeless couple as they train-hop across America, and builds from the themes that are entrenched throughout the album.

“There’s a lot of singing for the beaten-down and the people who don’t have a voice,” says Virginmarys singer and guitarist Ally Dickaty. “This particular song is about a couple that is escaping from the society that they’re living in because they’ve just had enough of it.”

Crack Your Skull by E

The tragic romance of Dennis Kalla's "Crack Your Skull" (featuring The Strongest Man Who Ever Lived) comes through in beautifully descriptive lyrics that cling to a sick sense without veering from romance, all while laying over an anthemic pop melody and hypnotically looping beat.

Haunting and painfully gorgeous with an emphasis on moving forward and emotive vocals that could enrapture the most passive of listeners, Kalla's lead single off his The Ones That Matter EP (out today on BD Pop and featuring two more tracks as disarming and beautiful as this) is a 3 minute shot - and only a small part of the story - of Kalla's own struggles to find a way back to life after depression.

A narrow narrative set to dark yet charming verses and a desperate back and forth will have you playing this one on repeat for awhile.

Doctor Doctor by E

Oh Pep!'s "Doctor Doctor" is an addictive anthem for any woman that had to rely on a boy when she needed a man and the simple repetition of "I know what I want and it's not what I need" speaks more fluently on growing up and recognizing responsibility over passion than any long narrative. The all encompassing fervor in which the chorus is delivered leeches into a twisted bridge and dances around story-like verses so rich you'll want to cling to them for a bit longer before that last verse comes along to flatten the casual listener with blunt reality

Pair it with a video as deceptively light on first watch as the song and it's lightly revolving melody are and there's no more impressive indie-pop on our radar right now than Australian duo Olivia Hally and Pepita Emmerichs, Oh Pep!, gearing up to release their debut album, Stadium Cake, June 24th on Dualtone.
